Brooks Saddle

My buddy, Jason, is letting me borrow his Brooks Flyer Special for a test run. The Brooks just isn't working for him and I've been wanting to give it a whirl. I'm not one to invest a lot in a saddle. But I doubt it would take much convincing. We'll see how it feels on the LHT.

Get out there.

  1. I have a B-17 on my Cross-Check and love it. So much, in fact, that I'm thinking about trying a Brooks on our tandem...and that's after riding over 12k miles with it's Terry saddle.

    1. Good to know! I've heard that most everyone loves it. But there's a select few that it just doesn't work for. Apparently, Jason's one of those few.

  2. Let me know if it doesn't work for you, I'd be interested in it! I've always ridden B-17 Specials, and have been wanting a Flyer with the copper rivets.

    1. Will do! I'm sure he'll want to unload it quickly if my backside doesn't have a good feel for it. I'll let you know!

  3. I'm curious about the Brooks saddles in general, but never wanted to make the investment with the possibility that it wouldn't work for me. This sounds like a great opportunity, and if you like it, I'm sure you'll get a break on the price.

I like the new blog banner. Well done.

  4. They're not as expensive as most people seem to think they are. I think there's this mystique and "ooh! ahh!" quality that a Brooks saddle generates among those who might not be all that familiar with them. Personally, I feel like there are a couple of components on your bike that are worth investing in. If nothing else, a good saddle and a good wheelset are two of the most important if you're going to be spending a lot of time on a bike. When you look at other higher-end, cushy gel saddles like those made by Specialized or Selle, they are just as expensive, if not more, than a trusty old B-17 Brooks. For example, I just paid $100 for the Specialized Avatar on my mtn bike, but I only paid $80 for the last B-17 I purchased. They're not for everyone, of course... but once your rear end settles into a Brooks, there's nothing quite like it.

    1. Yeah, I'm in a new phase of biking. After riding and possessing several quality bikes now, the LHT makes me want to slim everything down. I want to make the LHT my dream bike. It fits perfectly. It does most everything I need well enough. So I can slim down. But for now I have six bikes in my garage that I ride regularly. So I'm less inclined to spend $600 on saddles for them all. But now I'm thinking I could legitimately lose the geared Cross Check and potentially more. My brain is spinning. All that being said, we should grab coffee or plan a camping trip to talk bikes!

  5. I have a B-17 on my touring bike. I had always heard about breaking in Brooks saddles but I have to say that from the first ride it felt like there was nothing there. It was that comfortable. I also have a B-67 on my commuter bike and give both Brooks product my highest recomendation.
